About Edleez Tobacco

Our Name Story

On a late evening after a Zyniecki family reunion, Ed and Lee’s children gathered around a crackling campfire, tossing around ideas for the name of the tobacco shop their parents had just opened. Dozens of names came and went, but none felt quite right—until brother John suddenly lit up with inspiration.

“Edleez!” he shouted. “Get it? Ed and Lee Z.”

From inside the house, their father Ed called back, “Good—now go to bed!”

And just like that, a family moment became a legacy. The rest is history.

Our History

On August 18, 1981, Edleez Tobacco officially opened its doors. In those early years, Lee was truly the Queen of the Castle. She opened the shop every morning, greeting customers with her signature warmth, and ran the show with grace and precision. Each afternoon, her children took over so she could return home to cook dinner for the family—because at Edleez, family has always come first.

Ed stopped in every day during lunch and again after work, lending a hand to his wife and, of course, taking a moment to enjoy a good cigar. Every child had a job, and each one performed their duties to a perfect “T.” That was the standard Lee set—and everyone rose to meet it.

As the years went on, the family’s dedication became the heartbeat of the business. Their hard work, pride, and genuine care for customers laid the foundation for what Edleez would grow to be: not just a store, but a beloved staple of the Capital District, built on tradition, family values, and a love for premium tobacco.

More than 40 years later—after multiple renovations, expansions, and countless memories—Edleez now spans over 2,000 square feet, featuring a welcoming smoking lounge and the largest walk-in humidor in the Capital Region. Today, ownership has passed to Ed and Lee’s children, who proudly honor their parents each day by carrying on the legacy that started around a family campfire.
